Bag for my husband

My husband and I are trying to find a heavy bag for him. He's 6' 3", 150 lbs. What size bag should he get? Should we get a bag that is already filled, or fill it ourselves?

Also, I am concerned about hanging it from a beam in our basement. Is that putting too much strain on the beam? What kind of mounting bracket would be best?

Thank you!

Hey KLN. I recommend a 70lb bag. It'll be adequately heavy for your husband and manageable for you as well. Getting the bag filled is much less work, and since we offer $2.95 shipping you'll probably end up paying less money anyway (vs the cost of sand, shredded textile, and time spent).

You'll want to assess of the beam in your basement is attached do a solid part of your house (load bearing type beams). Furthermore, you'll want to make sure it isn't roting as it would then be unable to hold the screws of a mount or tolerate the impact.

For a wood beam, this type of mounting bracket is best - bx-ac-36.
