Hi Dave. The gel wraps can be put under gloves, or for lighter training on their own. Sometimes the thickness of gel wraps can be tough to get under gloves so maybe pick up a pair of regular wraps as well.

Good blend of old with new

My wife bought me a pair of these I love them. Not only are they comfortable they look cool too, they blend old technology with new technology. The straps still give you that old school look and adds more support to the wrist and keeps the glove from slipping by keeping the glove tight and close to the hand. I purchased a pair for my son he is 13 and the one size fits all is pretty accurate. Love the product....

Great choice

Great product! Will never go back to old hand wraps. Very comfortable. The extra wrapping for the wrist gives extra support great idea! Would highly recommend this product. They arrived in two days!

Good Wraps...

These are a good pair of wraps, pretty decent wrist support so long as you wrap them properly. The gel definitely helps if your hitting the bag without gloves as I do. I was using regular wraps and my hands were getting beat to hell, with these I am able to go pretty much full strength. My only complaint is I wish they went a little further on the fingers to cover the second set(middle) knuckle as I tend to rip those up alot on my hands! Could just be me though. All in all good product.

Just an FYI, these really are not one-size-fits-all. They are labeled an XL, and in fact, were definitely too big (glove wise) for my hand (I am a woman). I ended up giving them to my boyfriend, and he loves them, but these are way too big for juniors and women. I've been looking in vain for women's sizes since.

Hi Jenna. Sorry to hear the size didn't quite work for you. I'd like to suggest trying these: bx-ac-550. They've worked in the past for some women and juniors who have smaller hands, and they might be good for you as well.

Hope this helps in your search!

Pretty Good

Overall they do what they are meant to do, and provide solid knuckle protection. They add a little more weight to the hands than normal handwraps do. They have a nice and thick velcro closure, but the actual handwrap (not gel over knuckles) is a little thin for me. If it was thicker it would support the wrist better although I like that it has some elasticity to it. If your a heavy hitter, are using some abused training gloves, or need a little more protection for your knuckles these might be a great and cheap option for you.

speed bag

Are these gloves good for a speed bag? If not what is?

Some people who do not like using gloves for speed bags (because they are too bulky) find these to be a much better form of protection. They can definitely be used for speed bags, if you don't want gloves and want more protection than your bare hands provide.

Adds Something

The gel aspect definitely adds an extra layer of protection. Some people may not find it necessary and may be more comfortable with traditional wrap. But for anyone who wants a little extra, these are very cool.

Handwraps Expert FAQs

  1. Why do I need handwraps?

Handwraps are an essential piece of protective equipment for boxers. During training, fighters sustain a large amount of impact on their hands and wrists. For the hands, this can often result in scraps, bruises, or cuts to the skin. The wrist can also get bent or sprained should a punch land awkwardly. Handwraps (when used correctly) are designed to reduce the friction of contact on the hand, both on the punching knuckles and on the skin from wearing gloves. A good wrap can also secure the wrist and prevent excessive torque. In addition, wraps can help protect against 'boxer's break', which is a fracturing of the bones in the palm of the hand.

  2.
  3. What are gel glove wraps?

In the last few years gel gloves wraps have become very popular. Instead of wrapping your hands in the traditional way, you can slip on a pair of glove wraps. Glove wraps save a lot of time and are great for beginners that are not confident in applying handwraps. The downsides to using glove wraps is the price, that they need to be replaced fairly frequently, and the wrist protection is lacking (which is important when striking a heavy bag hard).
Do not use gel wraps alone when striking a bag. They will wear out very quickly that way. Invest in a pair of bag gloves to wear over them, it will save you money in the long term.

  4.
  5. What length handwrap is right for me?

If you are an adult male, you will probably want a wrap that is 170" or 180" in length. Some MMA practitioners prefer a shorter 120" wrap, but most boxers prefer the longer. For women, teens, and other individuals with small hands, 120" wraps will fit you better.

  6.
  7. Traditional wraps vs glove-style wraps

A recent development in handwrap technology is a slip on style glove that simulates the effects of a full handwrap. The benefit of these glove wraps is the speed at which you can wear them. You can slip them on and be training in a few seconds.
Traditional handwraps, on the other hand, still offer unparalleled security and protection when applied properly. They can be wrapped tightly and to your specific hand dimensions. The wrap supports the wrist and has been proven to reduce the chance of sprain.
