    What size to get?

How do I know how heavy a glove I should get?

The density (weight) is based on your body size. If you are a grown male you should probably go with the 16oz gloves. Women can usually go with 14oz and children 10oz or 12oz. If your glove is too light you will hurt your sparring partner. If you are not sure, get the heavier one.

Prior to a bout, both boxers agree upon the weight of gloves to be used in the bout, with the understanding that lighter gloves allow heavy punchers to inflict more damage

I got my brother to buy me the 16 oz gloves as a birthday present. I use them 3-4x a week in sparring and kickboxing classes. I like how easy they are to get on and off with the wrap around velcro strap. I wear wraps underneath most of the time but on occasion in karate sparring they want you to get geared up quickly so these are great for that too. Highly recommend these to anyone looking for a great bargain.

    velcro or lace up

im just getting started, are velcro or lace-up gloves better? Which gives more support?

Velcro (or "hook and loop") gloves are much easier to take on and off. They don't offer as much wrist support as lace-up gloves, but some beginners prefer the ease of use.

The lace-up gloves offer more wrist support, but are harder to get on and off - you'll probably need someone to help you with putting them on. The pros usually use lace-up gloves.

    Good luck!

    Kinda crappy

I have a pair of theses gloves and they kinda suck but I must admit they are comfterable once you brake them in.Theses gloves will only last you five months at the most if you train 5 times a week or more if your serious about boxing or watever fighting sport your in.But for a hobby they are perfect.

    Are these good bag gloves?

What can i use these for? are they designed to be durable for the bag, or are they more for sparring and fighting?

Hey Brendan. These gloves are actually safe for both sparring and bag work. Durability won't be a problem

    bag

what exactly is a super bag, because I have a pair of Ring Side super bag glove 12 oz. and was wondering are they only used for a super bag if there is such a thing or is it saying that the gloves are heavy duty. I also have a pair of Everlast Protex2 16 oz training gloves that are hook and look. What are the uses of these gloves. Im confused on what gloves are for what.

Hi Jermaine. The super bag and super bag glove titles are mostly just for brand differentiation. They use that to indicate a high level of quality, but it is not for a specific combination or bag type.

The gloves on this page are a fine choice as they are inexpensive, thickly padded, and come in a variety of colors. Another option are the amateur boxing approved style gloves: bx-gl-84. These provide excellent comfort and protection.

    Nice!!

I recently bought these and as soon as i put them on it felt perfect. this may not be the same for other people but eventually i broke them in and they felt even better. The only problem is they must of made a mistake on the stitching in the left glove because when my hand fully in the glove i can fell extra material and it;s kinda annoying but other than that its fine. me and my friend spar with them all the time.

    comfortable but reflects price

These gloves reflect those in their price range. I would recommend them for a beginner, but eventually you'll want to get leather gloves. They are easy on and easy off, it takes a bit of practice to get them just right though, once you have on your other glove you gotta use your teeth. Much easier than having to try to tie laces with your teeth though hahah!

    heavy bag gloves?

hello , i had just started training with a heavy bag. my gloves must suck because i have blisters on the knukle of my middle finger where my finger meets my hand. can someone out there recommend a set of gloves that will prevent this. or am i leaving out something. i seen these wraps but i thought they were for wrist support. thank you in advance for any answers. this info will be for me and my 14 yr old daughter, she asked for the heavy bag for training as she is in tae kwon do [3rd degree orange belt] and wants to work on her striking! thanks again

Yes you are. Hand wraps are a must. Learning how to wrap your hands is just as important as well. No equipment will work if it is not used properly. This will protect your knuckles and prevent any further injury to your hands. Aslo make sure you are using a 16 oz. glove and get your daughter a 12 oz. glove. Do not purchase the slip-on gloves. They are difficult to put on and offer minimal protection. Someone at your daughters school should be able to show you how to wrap your hands. Good Luck

These gloves are absolutely stiff and don't conform to your hands at all. I recommend the protex or protex2 for just a little more.

I use these gloves, though you are correct in saying they are stiff, just like any sort of glove, they must be broken in a bit.

As that is true to break them in means for you to crack the cardboard like material inside of them. Even beginner Title gloves I would recommend over these.

    Boxing Gloves Expert FAQs

    1. What type of boxing gloves should I get?

Boxing gloves are constructed to enhance different aspects of your game. Some gloves are designed to be small and compact and place more of the glove weight toward the wrist, increasing speed and impact. Protection is minimized, but punching power is increased. If your primary focus is on punching power, this is a good choice (consider the Cleto Reyes brand). Other gloves do the exact opposite, favoring more padding over the knuckles. Boxers that have had hand injuries or who wish to be mindful of safety prefer gloves that have extra padding over the knuckles. Gloves that are fluffier also make for better defensive tools as they can cover more surface area with less movement (consider the Grant brand of gloves). Other brands range in between these two extremes and you can gauge just how much padding you need, and where you want it.

    2.
    3. What weight gloves should I get?

The weight of gloves are measured in ounces. The higher the number the greater the shock absorbency and the heavier the weight. The standard for sparring is 14 - 20 ounces. Go on the heavier side if you want to increase your cardio or have a joint injury. For bag work 12 ounce is standard. For competition 8 or 10 ounce is the standard for pros and 10 or 12 ounce is standard for amateurs.

    4.
    5. Boxing Gloves vs. Bag Gloves

Boxing gloves are designed to use a softer less-dense foam combination, mold or gel that increases shock absorbency for both you and your partner. Bag gloves utilize a dense foam that can withstand the day-in-day-out pounding they will receive in the gym. The closure of boxing gloves protects your partner from abrasions. The closure of bag gloves are easy-on, easy-off. Bag gloves also can contain a grip bar in the palm, which provides you an enhanced (and safer) fist.

    6.
    7. Can I hit bags with my boxing gloves?

You can do bag work with your boxing gloves, but they will break down faster. The foam and outer in boxing gloves are designed to protect your opponent, which is great when sparring but when you use boxing gloves for bag work they will break down faster than comparable bag gloves would.
