“Predictable Quality”
These Everlast sparring gloves, will fit comfortably straight out of the box with or without handwraps and provide good protection for you and your opponent at a reasonable price.

These gloves are a good value.
  • Features a superior duel support panel for superior wrist protection and comfort
  • Constructed from durable and long lasting synthetic leather
  • Improved curved anatomical grip and fit
  • Enclosed thumb

A synthetic leather exterior wraps around thick gel that works to protect the hands of the wearer and face of the partner during sparring bouts. These training gloves are optimally designed for ease-of-use and protection.

The wrist enclosure is hook and loop as opposed to the more time consuming lace style, and the padding is thicker than most fight gloves. These training gloves can be used for bag work as well.

I think for your height I would recommend a medium sized glove. Also, I would suggest grabbing a pair of handwraps just in case you need to fill a little extra space, especially if you decide to go with a large sized glove.

Boxing Gloves Question

I have 17 yr old who boxes and had a broken knuckle last year. Is it better to buy a gel glove? What would you recommend? Also how do i know what size - he is 6'2" - 185 lbs..

Hi Cristi. I think a gel glove would be a good choice since they are especially good at disbursing impact. I also recommend that he uses handwraps since he was previously injured (you can find them here - bx-ac-15). As for size, I think large would be a good choice.

Which gloves?

I've been taking my kickboxing class for just over a month now and am totally hooked! I am ready to get my own gloves now. I'm a big girl (>250#'s) and will be using my gloves a couple times a week (in class with focus mitts and alone with a bag).

I am debating on this one "Protex 2 Gel Sparring Gloves" or the "Protex2 Training Gloves". Can anybody suggest which might be better for me?

Since you're still developing your technique as a beginner I would recommend the gel gloves. Gel is great at dispersing impact and would likely help preserve your knuckles and joints.

Not sure of glove size?

Hi, I am 17 year old male. I am 5'7" and about 125 lbs. I would say I have an average size hand which is 5" wide, just spread out at a normal position and 6.5" long. Any particular size that would be best for me? Also, I am 125 lbs so what weight of punching bag would you recommend? I have thought about a 70lb one, just not sure -

I think you would be best suited to a medium. If medium is unavailable in this model, go with this one: bx-gl-1113.

A 60 or 70 bag would be fine.

Hi Joey. I actually think you'd be best suited in a medium glove, like this one: bx-gl-1113. Those gloves also have proper gel/foam padding for you.

Hey Tintin. Try these out, probably medium size unless you have big hands - bx-gl-217. If you're going to spar other people, try these - bx-gl-40, 14 or 16 oz density.

Do I Need Two?

Is it worth the extra money to buy competition gloves and sparring gloves? Will buying sparring gloves help improve my fighting or could I just use one for the other?

Hey NJ. Generally speaking I would say yes, it is a good idea to have separate pairs for sparring and competition. The main reason is that you want a lot of padding for sparring so that you do not hurt your partner unnecessarily. However, when it comes time for competition, you would likely want less padding so as to transfer more impact.

Size

The Everlast Protex 2 Training Gloves come in 2 size options small/medium or large/extra large. Do these only come in the large version. I can't decide on which gloves to get between these or the protex 2 gloves.

Hey TSC. Right now we only have the large available. At some point we'll restock the smaller sizes, but right now I'm not certain when that will be.

Both glove styles are fine choices!

by: JRuiz

These contain a layer of gel padding, which some people feel protects their hands and disperses impact better.

How are these gloves compared to the Protex2 training gloves with no gel? Are these supposed to be better or are they just more money?

Gel is often cited as a superior material for impact dispersal. It also provides a little bit of a different feel than pure foam.

If you are 5'8"-6' go with the large. If you are a younger individual (12, 13 years old) consider the small.

16oz small and 16 oz large

What is the difference between 16 oz small and 16 oz large?
by: Sana
7/15/2010 11:01:49 AM
Was this helpful? (0) (0)
Hi Sana. The ounce (as in 16oz) is indicative of the weight of the glove, which essentially translates to how much padding you are getting. Therefore, the 16oz glove has plenty of padding no matter what size you get.

The large and small are meant for the actual size of the glove.

Boxing Gloves Expert FAQs

  1. What type of boxing gloves should I get?

Boxing gloves are constructed to enhance different aspects of your game. Some gloves are designed to be small and compact and place more of the glove weight toward the wrist, increasing speed and impact. Protection is minimized, but punching power is increased. If your primary focus is on punching power, this is a good choice (consider the Cleto Reyes brand). Other gloves do the exact opposite, favoring more padding over the knuckles. Boxers that have had hand injuries or who wish to be mindful of safety prefer gloves that have extra padding over the knuckles. Gloves that are fluffier also make for better defensive tools as they can cover more surface area with less movement (consider the Grant brand of gloves). Other brands range in between these two extremes and you can gauge just how much padding you need, and where you want it.

  2.
  3. What weight gloves should I get?

The weight of gloves are measured in ounces. The higher the number the greater the shock absorbency and the heavier the weight. The standard for sparring is 14 - 20 ounces. Go on the heavier side if you want to increase your cardio or have a joint injury. For bag work 12 ounce is standard. For competition 8 or 10 ounce is the standard for pros and 10 or 12 ounce is standard for amateurs.

  4.
  5. Boxing Gloves vs. Bag Gloves

Boxing gloves are designed to use a softer less-dense foam combination, mold or gel that increases shock absorbency for both you and your partner. Bag gloves utilize a dense foam that can withstand the day-in-day-out pounding they will receive in the gym. The closure of boxing gloves protects your partner from abrasions. The closure of bag gloves are easy-on, easy-off. Bag gloves also can contain a grip bar in the palm, which provides you an enhanced (and safer) fist.

  6.
  7. Can I hit bags with my boxing gloves?

You can do bag work with your boxing gloves, but they will break down faster. The foam and outer in boxing gloves are designed to protect your opponent, which is great when sparring but when you use boxing gloves for bag work they will break down faster than comparable bag gloves would.
