“An Excellent Choice”
This Everlast punching bag is the same as the very popular Everlast Nevatear bag, but has a more textured outer and a different color. It is excellent all-around first punching bag, and a good value.

We recommend this punching bag.

The Platinum Punching Bag from Everlast is made with durable Nevatear Construction so it will resist ripping and tearing. The high quality and great price of the Platinum Punching Bag make it a great choice for any use. It is the perfect size and weight for home use while being strong and versatile enough for daily use in gyms and dojos. The Platinum Punching bag is a great value.

Hi LMH. Although we don't have any in stock at the moment, I think a nice foam padded freestanding heavy bag would be best for him. His bone structure is still developing so you'll want something that can help him practice technique without causing a lot of impact and compression.

If you go with a bag like the one on this page, I would recommend investing in a good pair of padded gloves. That can also do the trick of avoiding injury.

Hi, I'm interested in buying this for my fiancee however we rent an apartment and can't exactly mount it to the ceiling/wall. Can this be used with the Everlast stand? My only worry is if it hangs too low to the ground. Thank you!

Hi Patricia. Yes, this bag can work with the everlast stand. I don't think you'll run into low hanging problems, especially if you don't use an intermediary chain between the bag straps and the hanger.

Hi Agrume. This platinum bag would work find, although if you don't have experience with bags before you might want to drop down to 70lbs here - bx-hv-160.

I think since you're a beginner and light body weight you should go with the 60lb bag. It will be easier on your joints as you develop skill and experience. Remember to get good gloves too!

Hi Brandon. With this bag you'll get the bag itself, the nylon straps attached to the top, and a short chain assembly that connects to the nylon. You will not receive a mount for your ceiling, gloves, or handwraps.

    Ceiling Height recommendation

I am looking to purchase this for my husband for his birthday. Our basement ceiling height is 6'5". I was wondering if that ceiling height is too low for this bag. Please advise.

Hi Manning. I think you'll be ok because you can hang the bag half way down the chain assembly, essentially taking out slack and hanging distance. You may need an extra S hook or carabiner to attach the middle of the chain assembly to your ceiling mount, but thats just a dollar or two and you can pick that up at any local hardware or sporting goods store.

Im 5foot 5 and weigh 120 and a girl. I was wondering which bag i should get, 60 or 80. Ive never used one before and think this would be a great way to get anger out and work out alittle. Im 17 and have a brother who is 8 and very athletic and might possible use it. He weighs about 80. Although hes light he does many sports like wrestling and football. Suggestions?

Hi Alex. This bag is a good choice for you and your brother. It is fairly inexpensive but is still very durable and usable. A 60lb bag would provide lots of bag swing for you, so you could practice footwork too. In addition, your little brother could use it more easily. The 80lb bag would be a little bigger and provide more resistance.

Whichever you pick, make sure to get a decent pair of bag gloves too!

How much space is needed around the bag when you install it? I plan on putting it in a corner. How much will the bag move? I'm a girl, 140 lbs, so i dont know how much i would move it when i hit it....

Hi Samantha. The amount of swing will depend on the impact you can impart, which is a combination of your body weight and technique. To compensate for regular punches and kicks, I'd recommend about 3 feet off the walls. This still might bump into the walls at times, but should cover the basics.

    price difference

Why are both the 60 and 80 pound versions of this bag the same price? It would make sense for the 60 to cost less.

    Best Cold Weather Bag

I'm looking for a bag that will hold up in an unheated barn in new England. What type of fill and cover should I be looking at. Outdoor temps will be below freezing many day during the winter

You'll want to avoid leather exteriors and any interior that involves water or gel. The best bet would be a foam fill with canvas/nevatear exterior.

The platinum bag you selected here would be a good choice.

    Punching Bags Expert FAQs
    1. What weight heavy bag should I get?

70lb-90lb bags are the most commonly purchased bags and are appropriate for adults in the 140-170lb weight range. These bags often provide the right blend of resistance and give.
For individuals who are 170+lbs or who have developed significantly increased punching power, you may want to shop for 100+lb bags.
Lighter bags in the 25lb-60lb range are great for children or smaller adults who are just starting out in their training regiment.
When deciding what weight to get, keep in mind that getting a bag that is a bit lighter will increase the sway and motion during your training. This can be beneficial if you are looking to improve your footwork and reactions. Heavier bags have a tendency to stay in place and are better for developing penetration power.

    3. How do I hang up my heavy bag?

You will have two main options for hanging up your heavy bag - installing it into your ceiling or purchasing a mobile stand.
Many people who have garages or finished basements choose to install the bag directly into a support beam in their ceiling. To do this they either purchase a simple holder or attachment which can be securely fastened to the beam. This method is inexpensive, but it can also be troublesome due to the noise heavy bag training makes. If the beam the bag is attached to connects with the rest of the house, it might cause vibration and noise when struck.

The second option is purchasing a free stand. These steel constructed units can either be purposed solely for heavy bags, or involve multiple stations for different kinds of bags. It is recommended that users weight the bottom of the device to minimize shifting as the bag is struck and swung.

    5. What kind of hand protection should I use?

It's important to use proper hand protection during training routines, especially if you are just starting out on the heavy bag. A combination of handwrap + bag glove is your best bet.
Handwrap is an an inexpensive cloth roll that is used to protect the knuckles and skin from abrasion while securing the wrist for repeated impact. Bag gloves are designed with extra padding and firm support in order to disperse the impact of strikes and reduce the strain on your joints. Different bag gloves have different thicknesses, and the sturdier the heavy bag the more padding you might want in your gloves.

    7. What kind of bag exterior is best?

The main exterior types are vinyl, nylon, canvas, and leather. Other options include synthetic leather, polycanvas, and Everlast's Nevatear.
Professional gyms and locations that use heavy bags frequently choose leather bags for their superior durability and feel. Leather bags are more expensive and require that you rub moisturizer into them occasionally to prevent cracking. Vinyl, nylon, and canvas bags are less expensive and don't require maintenance, making them popular choices for at-home use. Canvas bags are durable but very abrasive against bare knuckles.
