good for dojo

I've used these for around the dojo. They are valuable for general use as they keep your feet comfortable and padded, especially when walking around on hard wood. They can also be used for sparring, although sometimes they are a bit hard for that purpose. They are also mark-resistant, which is nice to keep the school floor in good shape.

Boxing Shoes Expert FAQs

  1. How are boxing shoes different than regular shoes?

On the surface boxing shoes might appear like normal running shoes, but they are actually quite different. The goal of a boxing shoe is to hug your foot snugly while still allowing air to flow through. Boxing shoes need to provide you with excellent traction but also be very light to maximize your mobility. This lightness is provided by a sole that is thinner than normal shoes and airy yet supportive. Shoe fabric is often constructed out of soft leather or suede, and feature either rubber or other non-slip type soles.
Boxing shoes provide a fine balance of characteristics that offer protection, comfort, and durability.

  2.
  3. What kind of shoe is right for me?

There are three main things to consider when shopping for shoes. First is comfort. When looking into different brands, pay attention to how much effort they have put into making the shoes breathable and light. You never want to feel burdened or distracted. Second is usability. You'll have to choose how much grip you think you will need (do you make lots of weight shifts and quick cuts? Do you slip often in the ring?), and also how much ankle support you'll want. Finally, you'll need to decide what kind of visual style you'd like. Depending on what kind of image you wish to present to spectators, you'll have to choose between flashy and subdued styles.

  4.
  5. Are boxing shoes required to compete in matches?

Amateur and professional boxers are not required to have boxing-specific shoes on, but in general it is recommended that you wear something safe and appropriate. Some fighters choose to use low coverage, wrestling style boots that are very minimalistic. Other boxers prefer higher topped boots that provide added support.

  6.
  7. What size should I get?

Most boxing shoes run in the same sizes as normal shoes. If you are a size 11 in running shoes, it is likely you are a size 11 in boxing shoes as well. Some fighters like to get a half size lower so the shoes are very snug and resistant to sliding around.
