hip flaps

Professional No-Foul Protector

I think the most important factor for this guard is the hip flaps. If you have reason to be extra cautious about your hips and lower abdominal, this might be a good choice for you. The flap design allows you good mobility, especially if you want to integrate kicking into your training. The protection to the groin wraps under nicely as well, providing the most important protection of all.

getting what you pay for

Professional No Foul Protector

At first glance this item seems a little pricey, and it is. But the quality of the design and the materials used is top notch. This model is extremely light and provides an excellent amount of mobility. These bigger groin and ab protectors can be a bit inhibiting at times, and this design doesn't suffer from much of that. It is also very protective - hard shell jock cups provide good protection too, but sometimes you need to cover a little more area. THis area style protector has that covered as well.

Lockdown Hi Michelin Boxing Shoes

I think what makes these boots stand out is their design to be comfortable and light. The mesh material they use is high quality and durable but still breathable. As the picture shows, the high ankles are flexible and light.

good for dojo

Ring Safe Fight Pro Shoes

I've used these for around the dojo. They are valuable for general use as they keep your feet comfortable and padded, especially when walking around on hard wood. They can also be used for sparring, although sometimes they are a bit hard for that purpose. They are also mark-resistant, which is nice to keep the school floor in good shape.

good for adidas wearers

Tygun II Boxing Shoes

I wear adidas in my day to day life, so checking out these boots was valuable for me. They seem to follow the same general design as other adidas shoes, and have a very nice high ankle feel. The toe tip material helps prevent skid marks on the ring and gym mats.

still one of the best

BasiX Bioflex Cup and Supporter

There are a lot of fancy groin protectors out there and a lot of choices. More often than not though I still go back to a basic cup like this one. It can be easily slipped on and off and it doesn't need a pair of neoprene shorts to go along with it. You can slip this kind of boxer shorts with ease, which is nice. The protection itself is good, it covers what needs to be covered.

best for the hips

High Performance Protective Boxing Cup

A guard like this is really best for the hips and lower abdominal. You might find the groin protection itself pretty average, but the whole unit does provide good protection. This could be especially useful for kickboxers as a lot of knees and roundhouse kicks are flying.

classic

Core Basic Full Zip Hoodie

This hoodie is most definitely a staple for any boxer. The everlast brand has been around forever and they have been making this hoodie forever. The quality is unquestionable, but you are also paying for the brand name, which is something to consider. If you like being a part of boxing culture, this is a good choice. You could, however, probably browse around and find something as good for a little bit less.

better for sparring and matches

Amateur Competition Boxing Gloves

There are a lot of bag oriented gloves floating around, but these gloves are best suited for sparring and ring work. The extra padding helps keep your sparring partners or opponents safe while still transferring the impact that you want. Solid wrist support as well.

good wrist support for bag work

Premier Bag Gloves

I believe these gloves are better suited for bag work than sparring work. The wrist strap and foam structure lend themselves to good protection during bag routines. Lonsdale has a history of good products, and these gloves are no exception. The inner thumb material is a nice touch as well.

complete and well balanced

Deluxe Home Gym Bag Workout Center

This 4 station unit has basically everything you would need for bag training. The heavy bag, of course, is the stable of the whole thing. If you add a little weight or security to the bottom footing bars, you can train as hard as you want without the unit shaking. Even without it is very stable. The best thing about this piece of equipment is that a couple of people can use it at a time.

adidas tends to bring it

Three Stripe Speed Bag

One thing that I have noticed is that adidas generally brings good quality with their products. That's a little bit of a blanket statement and im sure there are exceptions, but this speed bag seems to hold true to it. The classic adidas symbol is located right on the front, and the stitching and material seems to be able to take a lot of abuse.

tons of storage

Compartment Gym Bag

This bag was definitely designed with boxers in mind. One thing that really stands out is the effective use of space in the auxiliary pockets. Most smaller, extra pockets are barely usable as they hug the main bag tightly. These pockets are developed with some width that can actually handle bigger items. The design is also very cool, with some trademark ringside logos and boxing white silhouette on the front. Top notch for a great price.

Mini Heavy Bag Keyring

The attention to detail makes this keychain standout. It is a very accurate reproduction of a real heavy bag, and it is conveniently sized and shaped to fit on your keyring. Some keychains can be really bulky or awkwardly built, this one is fun for boxers and useful too.

strategic mesh pockets

XL Team Duffel

One thing that really stands out about this bag is the strategic mesh pockets that they've included. Even the big front compartment has a mesh strip that keeps things breathing. Most bags you have to keep open if you want them to dry out, but with this one you can zip it up and let it dry on the go.

really beefy

Wrecking Ball Heavy Bag

If you've ever wanted the satisfaction of really laying into a bag, this kind of wrecking heavy ball is perfect. The round nature of the ball lets you use a greater variety of techniques than a typical heavy bag. Of course, if you use pushing techniques to the front there does tend to be a bit more sway. You also have to be careful not to punch or kick the chains and injure yourself. Overall its a great gym addition, although not a complete replacement for classic heavy bags.

nice addition

Everlast Uppercut Bag

This is a nice addition to normal heavy bag work. Since heavy bags generally cant accommodate uppercut techniques, this bag right next to it provides that extra dimension. Also the price is not very restrictive, so it's not such a splurge. There isn't too much of a problem with popping and shifting, as I was initially worried about.

totally reliable

100lb Leather Heavy Bag

Ringside usually doesn't cut any corners, and this bag is a perfect example of that. The leather attachment pieces that connect the bag to the chains is very secure, and the quality of the leather casing is top notch. I've never heard of anyone using this bag and being disappointed with the results.

prefer the curved, but still good

Hook & Loop Leather Focus Mitts

One thing about buying strike pads like this is how you like to conduct your training sessions. If you buy a flat pair like this you'll have to keep in mind the correct body posture so that your training partner doesn't slip off every time they hit. I tend to prefer the slightly more ergonomic and organic curved versions that tend to slide the punch into the center of the mitt. But like I said, this is all a matter of taste. The quality here definitely isn't an issue.

good price

Round Target Shield

The quality of this product is good, but it's the price that tends to stand out. You could end up paying a lot more for a similar product with negligible difference in design and padding. This shield protects against punches and even kicks directed at the body, and the holder can hold it on the sides, that way you can have it flush up against the body (which is actually the safest way to use a pad like this).

A definite get

Mouth Guard Case

If you intend to get a mouth piece, be sure to get a case as well. One of the biggest problems with mouth guards is when they get dirty or bacteria starts to spring up (from all the moisture). Proper maintenance requires semi-frequent cleaning and a good case to protect it. This one also happens to be very inexpensive, which is nice.

Double Mouth Guard

For a lot of people one-sided mouth pieces are enough, but if you suspect you'll be getting hit rather frequently in the mouth, it's a good choice to spring for the double. The great thing about this guard is how inexpensive it is. If you happen to lose it, you can always get more.

great for punch work

Combat Angle Uppercut Bag

This bag is super tough and is great for punch work. I refrained from giving it a full 5 stars because kicking on this bag is a little bit awkward. That is notable for martial artists, but for boxers you can go full steam ahead here. The weight makes it very stable and the uppercut capability really increases the kinds of routines you can do.

The funny thing about good Thai pads is that you don't know how valuable they are until you try them. What you get is a high voltage striking series that is great for technique and for exercise.

definite improved grip

Rubberized Medicine Ball

The main selling point for rubberized medicine balls is the enhanced grip, and I have found that improvement to be very true. When you get sweaty and tired other medicine balls can slip become slick. The rubber provides great traction. Since this is a 12 lb ball you can be pretty sure that you'll be sweating by the end of the workout. Definitely recommended for grip and durability.

Takes me back

Olympic Style Beaded Jump Rope

Back in middle school we used to have these jump ropes all over the place. As kids we really put these things through the ringer. Without exception the plastic was scratched, nicked, and beat. But that's what makes the olympic beaded style so good - pure durability. The beads take the brunt of the abuse so that the cord doesn't have to. And, on the off chance it does break, it is so cost effective that you can just buy a gross of them.

Everlast Speed Rope

They weren't kidding. This robe really does go at an accelerated pace. The handle form and the rope construction and width all lend to a zippy experience. You won't get the same resistance and muscle work as with a hefty leather rope, but so long as you know what you are getting, this is a good choice. One other thing to note is that it can't take the same amount of abuse as leather or plastic beaded ropes.

This shirt is interesting because it gives a little homage to the Samurai of Japan. Tyrant Tee

This shirt is really cool. The thing I like about it is the old school flavor they put to it. The two dragon elements on the top are a nice nod to the Japanese roots of many martial arts, and the faded out design makes this look like a classic Tee.

Good Look

Everlast Adjustable Speedbag Platform

A lot of these adjustable platforms are relatively close in quality, but I liked this one because of the look. The natural wood goes nicely with the room that I have it in. It has just a little more sense of naturalness and blends in.

This was a great idea by everlast. I've never owned a double end bag stand and didn't like the idea of drilling into my floor. With proper weighting this product turned my normal workout station into a double side ready station.

Yea I guess it is a matter of just how much 'feel' you want during your training routines. XXL Wavemaster

Hi boxingmistress. For this particular unit the base gets filled with water or sand, and the bag itself is foam. Could you provide a link to the anti-slip cover you were considering? Also this type of bag is utilized in many gym facilities as it can be rolled around wherever you need it, provides great resistance, and has a long striking body that is appropriate for both tall and short users.

70lb. Leather Punching Bag

Hi Elizabeth - the 70lb-90lb range would probably be most appropriate for your son. Leather is generally considered the most durable exterior, but since he is new and will be using it as a stress management tool rather than a boxing training device, any exterior should be fine (including vinyl and canvas).

XXL Wavemaster

Hi Papo - How much you fill the base is not entirely proportional to your body weight. It is more a combination of your striking power your body weight (which naturally allows you to sink more thrust into your techniques). I recommend filling the base to around 160 lbs and see if it shifts around on you. If it does, fill it some more until you get a good feel.

Hey Derrick - Chain link style swivels require a small amount of work to open. It is recommended that you keep a pair of snap ring pliers handy, but regular pliers will work as well. Secure and remove the metal side pieces and use the pliers to pry open the chain link. Once the speed bag is placed on the bottom link, reverse the process and place the link back on your swivel base.

Your best bet is to reduce the length of your chain. The easiest way to do that is purchase a heavy bag S-hook bx-ac-568 and place it on a lower link, letting the extra dangle. Your other option is to go with a hacksaw and remove some of the links entirely.
